More shenanigans re: mom's ongoing battle with spam.

"WHAT'S AN SSL CERTIFICATE THIS GUY EMAILS ME EVERY DAY SAYING I NEED ONE TO GET ON FACEBOOK I DON'T LIKE THIS WHAT'S GOING ON."

This led into a very long and involved conversation about how google spiders work, how bots work, and why Facebook is the evil empire when it comes to selling personal data.

She turns to me and says "So...this Justin guy who emails me every day, he's not a real person?"

"Do you know him personally?"

"Well, no."

"Then he's likely a bot, mom."

"...what's that?"

...................and then I smashed my head repeatedly into drywall the end.

Can you block his email address so she just stops getting the damn things?

Already have done, believe me.

Gah. I don't suppose she uses an email system where you can set up a whitelist? Although that would probably only confuse her more.

The problem is that she's still getting business emails from my dad's accounts. So some are legit. Others are spam. She cannot tell the difference between the two. I could set up a whitelist for her, but knowing her she'd end up getting something from somebody not on that list, and she'd think it was legit every time.

I guess the only way for her to learn the difference is to keep bugging you about it. The downside to that is, y'know, she has to keep bugging you about it.

I'm at Mum's right now and she's making up for all the times she doesn't get tech support from me by whinging about everything from how shitty the Ticketmaster website is (to be fair it is pretty bad) to why the Yahoo homepage moved some stuff around.

In short, I feel your pain. In a very immediate sense of the term.
